BBBB
The Bluebird Black Box (BBBB) is an IT appliance
that will save your practice hundreds of rand!
Essentially it is a fully
managed Server, pre-configured with the latest Bluebird software.
We deliver
the BBBB to your practice and you or your IT technician simply plugs it into
your existing network.
Bluebird staff manages the appliance and update the
Bluebird software as needed.
Intelligent monitoring software constantly monitors the
state of your BBBB, which allows our staff to proactively detect and fix
problems.
Software updates are done by Bluebird staff. This is invisible to
you, the update just happens.
The remote access module allows you to use your
laptop to access the BBBB from theater, from home, while on
vacation.
Financial and clinical data is backed up each night to
a remote off-site server.
The BBBB (which requires pre-purchase of the PMS and EMR) consists of:
- Hardware: A state of the art Server using Intel i3 processors and including 2 hard drives
with RAID.

Uninterruptible power supply - UPS - with automatic shutdown and Bluebird modified software.
- Windows 7 Professional
(64 bit).
- Monitoring software.
- Secure communication module for labs results, XR
reports and communication with colleagues.
- Module for incremental, off site, backup of financial
and clinical data.
- Remote access to your PMS and EMR.
Practice v/s Bluebird
responsibilities.
- Bluebird will supply and configure the Server
complete with PMS, EMR and monitoring software and enabled for off-site backup
and remote access. If you decide you want to utilise the remote access or
off-site backup each of these additional services will attract a monthly fee. If you do
not choose the off-site backup option, you will be required to arrange
your own backup.
- You need a practice network, including internet access for the Server
(the BBBB). The BBBB needs constant Internet access (ideally via an ADSL line)
so that Bluebird staff can monitor and fix any potential problems.
- You need to have your own Windows computers that
connect to the server. You are responsible for those machines and the network.
You also, of course, need your
own printer/s.
- We will assist your technician install the Bluebird
client software on all your client machines.
- Bluebird will maintain the software on the server,
but if hardware dies your technician will be required to help replace whatever
failed. There is a manufacturers warranty, but any courier costs will be for
your account and, if hardware fails out of warranty, replacement is, of course, for your account.
- The server is not to be worked on by practice staff
therefore no monitor, key-board or mouse is supplied.
- The discounted support fee only applies if you write to the labs you use, and request that they no longer send you paper reports and c.c. us with a copy of that letter. Otherwise the standard monthly support fee applies.
- If you require EDI you need to get Switch (DHS) enabled.
- If you require medical aid updates, you need to get Medprax
enabled.
